DESCRIPTION:The London Potters and the English Ceramic Circle\, both charities\, have joined forces to\nprovide a day of ceramic demonstrations and lectures by leading potters and historical\nresearchers.\nEach speaker pairing comprises a demonstration by leading contemporary potters and a\nrelated discussion putting this work on a historical context\, as follows: \nLives in clay:\nKate Malone MBE – My life in colour\nJonathan Gray – Horace Elliott (1851-1938) \nWeaving new stories – Wedgwood and beyond:\nHitomi Hosono – my work with sprigs\nCaroline McCaffrey-Howarth – Lady Charlotte Schreiber: a researcher\, collector and benefactor \nRoyalty and Colonialism:\nRich Miller – Fired legacy – Colonialism and my designs (including the making of a crown)\nRoger Massey – Crowns\, Kings and other things – ceramics as a window into the 17th and 18th century world \nThe cost for attending the event is £35. \nLunch and refreshments are not included\n– there are various V&A cafés and restaurants and other eating places in the surrounding area. \nThe Museum opens at 10am\, registration starts 10.15am\, with welcome introductions planned for around 10.45am\, and the event will conclude around 5pm. \nThis is available to members of either the London Potters and/or the ECC. At this stage\, we are prioritising members – and if not a member\, the best idea would be join one or both of the groups. \nEarly booking is advised\, as initially each group has an allocation of 50 tickets. \nLP/ECC reserve the right to change the speakers should the need arise. \nExact timings and running order will be confirmed in joining instructions. \n\nSOLD OUT

DESCRIPTION:Victoria & Albert Museum\, London\nWe are delighted to confirm that the ECC is running a seminar at the V&A Museum on Thursday 20th March\, 2025\, devoted to Wedgwood and the Society of Dilettanti. The Society was founded in c1734 for noblemen and scholars that sponsored the study of ancient Greek and Roman art. While the Society is in existence today\, the seminar will focus on the eighteenth century. \nConfirmed speakers include: \n\nCharles Sebag-Montefiore – The Society of Dilettanti: Antiquity and Revelry\nCatrin Jones – Wedgwood and Hamilton: An Exchange of Ideas\nLucy Lead – ‘Vases was all the cry’: Wedgwood and Vasemania\nRobin Emmerson – Wedgwood’s network with the Dilettanti\nGaye Blake-Roberts – Wedgwood and Sir Joseph Banks\n\nTickets can be booked using the ticket option below. The price is £35 for members\, and £55 for non-members. In terms of timings\, the V&A opens at 10am – registration will run through 10:45am.
