Summer Picnic with Kate Malone MBE
Thrown Together – part II – a picnic at Kate Malone’s Kent farmhouse on 22 August 2026 – 12:00pm ~ 5:00pm
As part of Thrown Together at the V&A, Kate wanted to get ECC and London Potter members together to encourage an exchange of ideas. Kate’s vision for the picnic is to provide an opportunity for collaboration between contemporary ceramic artists and ECC members. By bringing together practitioners and researchers, the gathering will encourage the exchange of ideas, provide historical context for current work, and strengthen connections across the ceramic community. ECC members, in turn, should gain insight into contemporary ceramic practice, while makers will benefit from the Circle’s extensive knowledge of ceramic history and traditions.
Kate’s farmhouse (and main pottery studio) is located roughly half way between Canterbury and Margate.
Attendees need to bring with them: a picnic blanket, your picnic lunch/drinks and, ideally but at your own risk, a piece of ceramic that you would be happy to have a ‘critical analysis’ conversation. Kate will facilitate an informal critical discussion session – with the aim of fostering a constructive dialogue, fresh perspectives, and mutual learning through open and thoughtful exchange.
Kate is requesting that attendees pay £20 for the day, monies that will be donated to FiredUp4.
If you wish to attend, please email Jonathan Gray on president@
Numbers are limited, so early confirmation would be appreciated. Address details will be sent to those who register and payment will be taken on the day.
