Wedgwood & The Society of Dilettanti

We are delighted to confirm that the ECC is running a seminar at the V&A Museum on Thursday 20th March, 2025, devoted to Wedgwood and the Society of Dilettanti. The Society was founded in c1734 for noblemen and scholars that sponsored the study of ancient Greek and Roman art. While the Society is in existence today, the seminar will focus on the eighteenth century.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Charles Sebag-Montefiore – The Society of Dilettanti: Antiquity and Revelry
- Catrin Jones – Wedgwood and Hamilton: An Exchange of Ideas
- Lucy Lead – ‘Vases was all the cry’: Wedgwood and Vasemania
- Robin Emmerson – Wedgwood’s network with the Dilettanti
- Gaye Blake-Roberts – Wedgwood and Sir Joseph Banks
Tickets can be booked using the ticket option below. The price is £35 for members, and £55 for non-members. In terms of timings, the V&A opens at 10am – registration will run through 10:45am. The study day will conclude by 5pm latest, for those of you wishing to book trains.
Please note that attendees are responsible for their own lunch, that can be purchased from various places inside the V&A or other venues.
